Like if you were to read something that took place right after AOTC, you’d instantly know about what was going on in the galaxy at that time. The original six movies were stories that served as landmarks for the state of the galaxy and the status of major characters. Just as a quick crash course in what I like to call landmarks in the EU. The reason people recommended the Thrawn trilogy first is, while there are other books between ROTJ and the Thrawn trilogy, they don’t have anything that you need to read to understand what’s going on.
